Mindfulness, or present-moment awareness, is a mental skill that involves deliberately bringing attention to the present moment with an accepting attitude towards experience. Its practice is spreading worldwide as a way of perceiving, feeling and becoming more aware.
Mindfulness encourages openness to experience without attempting to change it, including recognising and tolerating discomfort, pain and anxiety. The therapeutic potential of this practice has not gone unnoticed by many clinicians and researchers, who over recent decades have developed and established specific programmes for a range of mental health conditions.
Expert Programme from the University of Deusto, the Department of Psychiatry at Basurto University Hospital, and the Basque Foundation for Mental Health Research (OMIE).
