    HOW IS THE COURSE STRUCTURED?

    1st year of study

    You will study the fundamentals of international relations as well as the foundations and language of law that will help you understand how international society works.

    2º Year

    The Bachelor’s degree in International Relations looks to provide a background enabling graduates to analyse and understand the complex international relations system, its origin, evolution and current panorama. This overall view also provides knowledge of the players, relationships and conflicts that are created and the theoretical approaches used to interpret them.

    4th year of study

    You will spend a semester at an international university where you can broaden your knowledge in the field of regional studies. In addition, you will learn more about international politics and conflicts and acquire practical skills such as leadership and negotiation skills.

    1st year of study

    In your 5th and last year of study, you will be required to do two Undergraduate Final Year Projects, one in the field of International Relations and another in Law.

    The subjects are divided into 8 blocks

    What subjects do you study on this programme?

    History, Law, Political Science... subjects that provide you with the basic concepts needed to understand how today's society works.

    Public International Law , which focuses on the principles and rules that regulate the relations between States and other subjects of International Law, European Union Law and their main mandates, Private International Law...

     

    During your international stay you will analyse and learn about the main aspects of the socio-cultural, political, economic or legal system of your destination region (Africa, America, Asia or Europe).

    Subjects that will help you understand how organisation of the state and public administrations is regulated, and the relations between them and citizens.

    Through the study of these subjects you will understand the relations between individuals; those that address the company, the employer and the legal instruments and relations relating to them, the regulation of labour relations...

    The problems of today's societies: human rights, democratic principles, the principles of equality between men and women, solidarity, environmental protection, promotion of the culture of peace and respect for diversity.

    Subjects such as Political Science, Theory and International Organisation, Policies and International Conflicts, or Economic-Financial Relations will enable you to understand the complexity of international relations, their origin, evolution and current situation, the players, relationships and conflicts that arise in them and the theoretical approaches used to interpret them.

    Internships, negotiation and leadership workshops, as well as final year projects will allow you to apply your knowledge and further develop your competences.

    What language is used in the programme?

    The bilingual English-Spanish programme will reinforce your language skills, an essential aspect for today’s increasingly internationalised world of work.  Students are required to provide proof of a B1 level in a third international language before completing their studies.

    The Language Centre of the University of Deusto offers specific courses for students on the double degree that are adapted to the class schedule.

    TWO PROJECTS TO ROUND OFF YOUR TRAINING

    Undergraduate Final Year Project

    Students are required to prepare an intervention report or do a project or research paper and defend it before a panel. You will prepare a project in the Bachelor's programme in International Relations and another in the Bachelor's programme in Law.

    The subject areas for these final year projects are as follow:

    The project has a legal focus should be related to at least two branches of Law.

    Successful completion of the project will prove that students are capable of applying their knowledge.
