About the Language Centre

The Language Centre at the University of Deusto aims to provide high-quality language training and certification for all.

The Centre also provides the Translation and Language Support Service across the University of Deusto.

You can studyBasque, English, and Spanish as a foreign language.

You can also officially certify your level, as we are an official examination centre for Cambridge and Linguaskill exams. If you study Basque at the Centre, you can certify your level with HABE.

If you are an undergraduate student at the University of Deusto, you will receive a 20% discount on English courses. Alumni Club members reveive a 10% discount.

Students enrolled in a Basque course in the previous academic year will receive a 5% discount when registering at the University’s Basque language centre (euskaltegi).

Test recognised by the Basque Government for competitive examinations. If you need a test that quickly assesses and determines your English level, you can take the Cambridge Linguaskill test at the University of Deusto. Check upcoming exam dates and fees:

HABE

If you are a student at the University of Deusto’s Euskaltegi and wish to take the HABE exams, the listening and written comprehension tests (entzumena and irakurmena) will be held at the University. The writing and speaking tests (idazmena and mintzamena) will be held separately, at the location determined by HABE.

What language requirement do you need for your degree and mobility programme?

Exam models

If you do not hold an external language certificate, you must take the language requirement exam in one of its two sittings (January and June).

To do so, you must register for this exam. The language requirement is a subject within your degree programme for which you must enrol. 

Check in the Virtual Office that you are enrolled; otherwise, you will not be able to sit the examination.

  • If you are enrolled on a Language Centre course corresponding to the level required for your Faculty’s language requirement and have passed the assessments for that course, you may apply to have this requirement recognised through the Language Centre Offices, by email toidiomas@deusto.es or in San Sebastian toidiomas.ss.@deusto.es, immediately after successfully completing the course.
  •  You can demonstrate your language level with an internationally recognised external certificate. At the University of Deusto’s Language Centre you can take the following exams: 

o   Cambridge Assessment English  (Bilbao Campus)

o   Linguaskill from Cambridge (Bilbao Campus)

You must submit the original diploma along with a copy at the General Secretariat. Certificates of recognised equivalent language qualifications listed in the following table may also be submitted.

CONVERSATION EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

Tandem language learning is a form of autonomous learning in which international students and local students work together to learn each other's language and develop a knowledge of the target culture, while making new friends.

The Tandem Programme is only open to students at the University of Deusto.
