    Programme aim

The plan has, on the one hand, a professional orientation, based on acquiring the necessary competences for professional practice in the health field, but also provides the necessary knowledge to evaluate and intervene in the field of Gerontology.

    Why Deusto

    Track record in both areas

    01

    A complete tour through health

Students will benefit from the extensive teaching and research experience of the Faculty of Psychology and Education in the field of health, as well as from a R+D+i Unit in Psychology and Health, which addresses clinical intervention in liaison with internationally consolidated research areas and teams.

    02

With our elders since the 1990s

The University's awarenesstowards training in the field of gerontology and care for the elderly has been evident since the mid-1990s, as specific subjects were offered that focused on working with the elderly. Given the good level of acceptance among students, as well as the commitment of the University of Deusto to training in gerontology, the Specialist Course in Gerontology was launched for the first time in the 2003/2004 academic year.

    03

Launch of the official master's degree

Subsequently, as it was well received by students and had the support of the local social actors (Biscay Regional Council, the Basque Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology and the Biscay Federation of Elderly Associations, the Master's Degree in Gerontology was launched and became an official Master's Degree in 2009/10. Since then, its graduates have highly appraised it and has had a high rate of employability.

    04

    Two related areas

The two master's degrees have always been connected throughout the Faculty’s history before the joint programme was launched. Proof of this is that the Master's degree in Mental Health and Psychological Therapies, replaced in the 2014/15 academic year by the Master's degree in General Health Psychology, already included theoretical and practical modules taught by specialists in the field of gerontology.

Who is this programme designed for?
