20 January 2026
San Sebastian Campus
On 20 January, St Sebastian’s Day, the University of Deusto took part, as it has done since 2016, in the traditional Tamborrada of San Sebastian’s festival, with a company of cooks and water carriers made up of students, alumni, academic staff and university service personnel, together with other people connected to the institution. This year, the Rector of the University of Deusto, Juan José Etxeberria SJ, and the Vice-Rector of the Donostia Campus and Institutional Relations, M. José Aranguren, also took part. As Carolina Kutz, Drum Major of the Company, explained: "Year by year, the sense of belonging grows, both to the company and to the city’s festival. It is a day filled with shared excitement, enthusiasm and tradition, where no distinctions exist.”
The parade began at the University itself. The flag-raising, led by the Rector, Juan José Etxeberria SJ, took place at 08:30. The company set off from the campus at 08:45, and from that moment on, drumming continued until Plaza Bilbao, where it joined the ONCE Tamborrada. After a short pause, the company continued to the Jesuit church on Andía Street, where the March of San Sebastian and the Hymn of Saint Ignatius performed inside the church. The parade will then proceeded through the Andía, Hernani and Loiola areas, finishing at the Buen Pastor, where it played alongside the Tamborrada of Kutxa employees. The University of Deusto’s company was welcomed by the Sociedad Gizartea, its Drum Major and its President. The parade concluded with the March of San Sebastian performed in front of the Vallés.
