Bilbao Donostia-San Sebastián
The University of Deusto has taken the first steps towards the construction of a new student hall of residence in San Sebastián, a strategic project that will increase the capacity to accommodate national and international students and consolidate the institution’s position as a leading university in an increasingly global environment.
The future building will be constructed on the plot adjacent to the Jesuitak Donostia school, which the Society of Jesus owns in the city of San Sebastián, on the site formerly occupied by the novitiate. This development forms part of the University’s internationalisation strategy, aimed at attracting talent to the region, promoting academic mobility and offering a holistic university experience to students who choose Deusto for their studies.
Work to be carried out
As the first phase of the project, demolition work on the old building will take place during July and August, coinciding with the school holidays, in order to minimise the impact on the school’s activities.
Once this work has been completed, the perimeter of the site will be enclosed by an information hoarding identifying the future development as the “University of Deusto International Hall of Residence”, raising the project’s profile in the city.
Over the course of the coming academic year, the construction plans will be drawn up and the necessary authorisations and licences will be processed, with the aim of commencing construction once these administrative procedures have been completed.
This facility aims to address the current challenge of university accommodation in San Sebastián, an issue which the University of Deusto considers a priority. For this reason, the university maintains an active policy to provide a wide and diverse range of accommodation options. Beyond simply ensuring the availability of places, Deusto focuses its efforts on providing comprehensive support and advisory services. In this way, it guides and assists students throughout the entire process of finding and managing their accommodation, thereby facilitating their integration.
