Last month, students on the Bachelor’s degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences took part in a practical experience organised as part of the subject ‘Inclusive Physical Activity and Adapted Sport’. The session included the participation of a 7-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who uses a walking frame to move around.

The main aim of the activity was to analyse and experience inclusive play activities, enabling students to identify potential barriers to participation and consider different adaptation strategies. The activities were designed and reviewed in line with the internal logic of each game, with the aim of promoting effective participation and genuine inclusion.

During the session, the group worked on different types of games, focusing on aspects such as space, materials, rules, rhythm, relationships between participants and forms of participation. This approach provided practical evidence of how small adjustments can have a significant impact on children’s participation, autonomy and sense of achievement.

The experience also helped to explore the concept of inclusive physical activity in greater depth, understood not only as the opportunity to participate, but also as the design of meaningful activities tailored to each person’s needs and the specific characteristics of the activity itself.

We would also like to thank the family for making this visit possible, and especially the girl for taking part. Her presence provided a valuable learning opportunity and reinforced the importance of continuing to promote truly inclusive sport and play.
