Rising energy prices (electricity, gas and oil) caused by the war in Ukraine are affecting thousands of companies worldwide. Electricity costs are causing companies of different sectors and sizes, from electro-intensive industries to self-employed professionals whose profits depend on fuel prices, to come to a standstill.

In recent weeks, debates have emerged on the need to break energy dependence on third countries, to promote generation through new renewable sources such as hydrogen and to establish regulations aimed at promoting energy efficiency and sustainability. With this objective in mind, the Basque industry is reinventing itself towards proposals with real added value.

In this context, the University of Deusto will be holding a new Deusto Engineering Breakfast onWednesday, 23 March, with a debate on "The Basque industry facing the challenge of sustainability. A historic moment”. The Faculty of Engineering is organising this initiative to explore the keys to digital transformation with experts from the world of business and industry. This event will take place in the Library-CRAI of the University of Deusto (7ª floor) at 9:00 a.m.

The meeting, which will be presented by the Rector of the University of Deusto, José María Guibert, will be attended by Arantza Tapia, the Basque Government’s Minister for Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment; Manuel Ángel Alonso Pérez, Director of Northern Territory Telefónica; Elías Unzueta, Chief Innovation Officer of Petronor and Marta Álvarez, Director of Competitiveness and Innovation at IDOM. The talks will be moderated by Pablo García Bringas, Vice-Dean for External Relations and Continuing Education at the university.
