The University of Deusto Law School hosted yesterday the event “Basque businesses facing internationalisation. Legal Challenges", organised by the University and the law firm Uría Menéndez, with the aim of reflecting on the main legal challenges faced by Basque companies in their international expansion process.
The event was opened by the Dean of Deusto Law School, José Ramón Intxaurbe, and featured contributions from leading professionals and academics. The first panel, titled “If you want peace, prepare for war,” addressed dispute resolution clauses in international contracts, with presentations by Ainara Galván (Corporate Counsel, Tubacex), José Luis Iriarte Ángel (Professor of Private International Law, Public University of Navarre) and Álvaro López de Argumedo (Partner, International Arbitration, Uría Menéndez).
The second panel focused on the protection of intellectual and industrial property abroad, with contributions from Eduardo Orbezua (Director of Legal Services, Aernnova), Belén García Álvarez (Professor of Commercial Law and Director of Legal Services and Compliance Officer, University of Deusto) and Borja Sainz de Aja (Partner, Intellectual and Industrial Property, Uría Menéndez).
The event concluded with an open forum with participants, where experiences and reflections were shared on the need to anticipate legal risks in internationalisation and to establish robust preventive strategies.
This meeting marks the first in a series of events that the University of Deusto and Uría Menéndez plan to organise in the future, with the aim of continuing to foster dialogue between the academic, business and professional spheres on the legal challenges of internationalisation.
