Deusto and ABAO Bilbao Opera have signed a collaboration agreement to bring opera and culture closer to the university community. The agreement was signed by the Rector of Deusto, Juan José Etxeberria, and the President of ABAO Bilbao Opera, Juan Carlos Matellanes. It aims to promote activities related to the performing arts and artistic creation.
In this regard, students and staff at the University of Deusto will be able to attend ABAO Bilbao Opera performances at significantly reduced prices. Participants in the Enjoying the Arts programme run by DeustoBide – School of Citizenship will also benefit from exclusive advantages, including an annual behind-the-scenes visit to one of the productions in the opera season. For its part, the University will offer a discount to members of the association who enrol on the aforementioned DeustoBide programme.
The agreement also provides for collaboration in teaching and educational activities. Under the agreement, ABAO Bilbao Opera will facilitate the participation of opera professionals, including members of the artistic cast, musicians and production staff, in university teaching sessions and institutional academic events. Similarly, the two organisations will jointly organise lectures and workshops, as they are already doing through the «ABC of Opera» series. To support these activities, the University of Deusto will make its facilities, venues and official institutional communication channels available to help promote the initiative.
The signing of this agreement strengthens a collaboration between ABAO Bilbao Opera and the University of Deusto that has spanned more than 15 years. During this time, the Enjoying the Arts programme run by DeustoBide – School of Citizenship has helped generations of adult learners make the most of Bilbao's opera season.
