Izaskun Orue Sola, new Young Corresponding Member of Jakiunde

The appointment recognizes her outstanding research career and her commitment to academic excellence at the University of Deusto.

The Basque Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, Jakiunde, has appointed Izaskun Orue Sola, professor and researcher at the University of Deusto, as a Young Corresponding Member during the Plenary Session held on November 7, 2025, at the University’s Bilbao campus.

This appointment acknowledges her talent, academic trajectory, and scientific contribution in the field of psychology, and represents an honor for the University of Deusto, which sees in this distinction a reflection of the commitment and excellence of its research staff.

A PhD in Psychology from the University of Deusto, Izaskun Orue is a member of the Deusto Stress Research team and coordinator of the Research Focus on Health, Wellbeing and Social Cohesion. Her research focuses on internalizing and externalizing problems in children and adolescents from a cognitive perspective, an area in which she has contributed with over 40 scientific publications in high-impact journals and more than 100 conference presentations at national and international level.

With a solid teaching background, she lectures in the Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, the Master’s in General Health Psychology, and the PhD Program in Psychology, both in Basque and Spanish. She has also been Coordinator of the Psychology Degree and has held other positions of responsibility within the institution.

Since joining the University of Deusto in 2010, Izaskun Orue has stood out for her research vocation, her commitment to training new generations of psychologists, and her participation in competitive research projects at national and international level.

 

Deusto at Jakiunde

Izaskun Orue’s appointment as Young Corresponding Member further strengthens the link between Jakiunde and the University of Deusto, two institutions that share a deep commitment to knowledge, research, and interdisciplinary reflection as engines of social and cultural progress.

The University of Deusto has a strong representation within the Academy, which now counts 13 members. At the Plenary Session held on April 4, 2025, in Vitoria-Gasteiz, four new members from the University joined the institution: as Corresponding Members, sociologist Edurne Bartolomé Peral and Research and Development Engineering professor Jon Mikel Zabala Iturriagagoitia; and as Young Corresponding Members, philosopher Irene Gantxegi Madina and criminal law scholar Jon López Gorostidi.

These new academics joined those who already represented Deusto in the Academy: as Elected Full Members, economist José Luis Larrea, international law scholar Mikel Mancisidor, psychologist Helena Matute, and mathematician Enrique Zuazua; as University Chancellor, the Rector Juan José Etxeberria; as Corresponding Members, telecommunications engineer Begoña García-Zapirain and computer engineer Diego López de Ipiña; and as Young Corresponding Member, psychologist Naroa Ibarretxe.
