On 16 September, hundreds of representatives from institutions, academia and the professional sector will gather at the University of Deusto to discuss the state of the labour markets and the need for foresight policies. The event, entitled ‘Políticas de anticipación europeas en el empleo’, organised and hosted by the Provincial Department for Employment, Social Cohesion and Equality, will take place from 9:30 to 3:30 in the Ceremonial Hall.
The event, which will be opened by Rector Juan José Etxeberria, will be attended by the Minister for Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz; the Vice-President and Minister for the Economy, Labour and Employment of the Basque Government, Mikel Torres; the Provincial Deputy for Employment, Social Cohesion and Provincial Equality in Biscay, Teresa Laespada; the President of the Spanish Economic and Social Council, Antón Costas; and the Secretary-General of the FEPS – Foundation for Progressive European Studies and former European Commissioner for Employment, László Andor.
Over the two days following this meeting, the 21st Annual Meeting of the European Network for Regional Labour Market Monitoring (EN RLMM) will take place, focusing on the analysis of labour market intelligence and evidence-based policies.
According to Provincial Deputy Teresa Laespada, “anticipating changes in the labour market is a strategic necessity for ensuring quality employment and social cohesion.” In her view, “Biscay must lead the way in labour-market foresight and intelligence by learning from international best practices and adapting its policies to the future,” she stressed.
