The University of Deusto has appointed Professor of Commercial Law Eba Gaminde as the new Aldezle–University Ombudsperson. She succeeds Joxin Etxezarreta, who completed his term in the role, which he had held since 1 October 2017. With this appointment, the University continues a well-established and essential role in university life, conceived as an impartial channel for mediation and listening for all members of the community.

The Aldezle has an extensive career at the University, where she has been teaching since the 1997–98 academic year in subjects such as Business Law, Company Law and Commercial Contract Law, which she teaches in Basque. Her specific area of research is Cooperative Law, on which she defended her doctoral thesis, and she is a member of the LEGEKINBERRI research team: innovative legal initiatives and democratic governance for a fair, inclusive and sustainable society.

Her entire professional career has been closely linked to her two great passions: Law and the Basque language, in which she has written all her articles and publications. This led to her appointment in 2022 as a corresponding member of Euskaltzaindia (euskaltzain urgazle). She has also been a Justice of the Peace in Mungia since 2012, a role that has enabled her to develop a particular sensitivity to listening, conciliation and mediation.

Door always open

Eba Gaminde is very grateful for the trust placed in her and takes on the responsibility "with humility, enthusiasm and commitment". She considers it an honour to serve the university community and stresses that her door will be “always open” to those who need guidance and, ultimately, an impartial perspective. Her aim is to help ensure that the University continues to be “a space where all voices can be heard with respect and where fair solutions are promoted through dialogue”. She firmly believes in the power of dialogue to resolve conflicts and concerns and to enhance university life, and commits to acting at all times guided by “justice, transparency and respect for our community”. In this regard, “listening, explaining and supporting” will always be the pillars of her work.
