The University of Deusto and the Latin American Centre for Administration and Development (CLAD), an international public body representing 24 countries, have signed a collaboration agreement to jointly promote research and knowledge transfer in Latin America. The main objective of this alliance is to strengthen democracy and improve political and institutional systems in the region.

The agreement, promoted within the framework of the Master’s in Democracy, Public Institutions and Political Innovation of Deusto’s Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, establishes a cooperation framework in key areas such as Democracy, Public Management and Policy, and Sustainable Development. To this end, joint actions will be promoted in areas such as the education and training of professionals; support for research staff and students; the development of research projects; the design and implementation of advisory and consultancy projects; and the organisation of academic activities (courses, conferences, symposia and seminars).

In addition, one of the objectives of the agreement is to strengthen links with Latin America by facilitating the active participation of professionals linked to CLAD in sessions and seminars of the Master's in Democracy, Public Institutions and Political Innovation.

The Rector of the University of Deusto, Juan José Etxeberria, and the Secretary-General of CLAD, Conrado Ramos, have signed this agreement. The event was also attended by Ane Ferran, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences; Martin Zuñiga, Director of the Master's in Democracy, Public Institutions and Political Innovation; and Sonia Alonso, Head of the Democracy Research Focus at the University of Deusto.

CLAD is an intergovernmental body, whose creation was recommended by the United Nations General Assembly. Its main mission is the modernisation and improvement of states and public administrations, operating through international cooperation programmes and bringing together countries from Latin America, the Iberian Peninsula, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea.
