Donostia-San Sebastián
On 6 and 7 July, the San Sebastian campus at the University of Deusto will host the 5th International Congress on New Challenges in Human Rights (5th CINDHU), organised by the Law School and the Ibero-American Institute of Legal Studies – IBEROJUR, and will be held in a hybrid format (in person and online).
Human rights are a fundamental pillar in the building of fair, democratic and inclusive societies. In a world characterised by rapid social, political, technological and environmental change, it is essential to foster spaces for dialogue and reflection that enable us to critically analyse the progress made and the obstacles that still remain. In this context, the aim of the 5th CINDHU is to encourage reflection on the various dimensions of human rights, within a pluralistic setting for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and perspectives amongst researchers, professionals, activists and civil society.
The congress aims to discuss emerging issues such as structural inequalities, migration, humanitarian crises, the impact of new technologies, climate change and the defence of human dignity in situations of instability. Beyond identifying problems, the meeting aims to foster solutions, strengthen cooperation networks and reaffirm the collective commitment to the promotion, protection and effective implementation of human rights at regional, community and global levels.
Jon López Gorostidi and Elena Atienza Macías, lecturers at the University of Deusto’s Law School, will coordinate the conference, alongside members of the organising committee and the scientific committee: Beatriz Pérez de las Heras, Inmaculada Herbosa Martínez, Aitziber Emaldi Cirión, Emilio José Armaza Armaza, David Fernández Rojo, Natale Serón Arizmendi, Estela Brión Berdote, Xabier Ezeizabarrena Sáenz, Raquel Arias Benéitez, Garazi Romero Sánchez, Eduardo Pardo Bazán, Iratxo Gorostiza Etxeberria, all of them lecturers at Deusto Law School.
