The University of Deusto and BBVA have renewed their partnership agreement for a further year, with a focus on promoting research and university education. This year, the focus will be on developing doctoral activities in Ethics and Artificial Intelligence, Ethics and Disability, and projects within the Centre for Applied Ethics (CEA).

The agreement, signed by Marta Alonso, Head of BBVA’s Northern Regional Office in Spain, and the Rector of the University of Deusto, Juan José Etxeberria, reaffirms BBVA’s commitment to the Basque Country and both institutions’ commitment to expanding education and training.

“Education, research and knowledge sharing have always been unquestionable priorities. At BBVA, working with the University of Deusto, we want once again to promote opportunities for training and academic research,” said Marta Alonso, Head of BBVA’s Northern Regional Office in Spain, at the signing of the agreement.

For his part, Juan José Etxeberria highlighted the need to continue sharing our university’s mission with institutions like BBVA, which, in his words, 'are essential for enabling us to carry out our work in service of people’s well-being, within a society that is increasingly supportive, more developed, and more committed to the progress of all its citizens’.

Support for talent and urban development

Alongside its commitment to technology and humanistic ethics, the agreement continues to support young talent through a financial contribution to the University of Deusto’s fund for undergraduate grants in the field of the humanities. The agreement also sets out to support the organisation of the Learning Communities run by the CAE in the areas of Organisational Ethics, Conflict and Peace, and Technoethics.

The signing of the agreement also supports collaboration with the Deusto Cities Lab Chair, providing the necessary resources to launch new projects related to urban innovation, citizen participation and advisory services for public administrations in response to emerging social contexts.
