Barandiaran Room
On 23 January 2026, the seminar will be held in the Barandiarán Room at the University of Deusto (Bilbao campus): "What is it like to be in the justice system? Victimisation and de-victimisation in women victims and the professionals who support them".
Throughout the seminar, we will reflect on experiences of judicial proceedings and the impact this reality has on the professionals who work with victims. Among others, we will be joined by Noemí Pereda and Josean Echauri to take an interdisciplinary perspective on secondary victimisation and the role of the justice system in its prevention, the psychological impact of trauma on both victims and professionals, and key principles for a more restorative form of justice. In addition, Ana Eugenia Abasolo y Susana Corral will present the research findings on the experiences of women victims of sexual and gender-based violence within the justice system.
The event will be held in person with the option to follow it via streaming. Participation will be free of charge, but registration (limited capacity) is required. The event has been organised by the University of Deusto and the Basque Institute of Legal Medicine, and funded by the "la Caixa" Foundation.
