8M Commemoration

Under the slogan “Sí es para tanto”, Deusto marks 8 March, International Women’s Day, with a range of participatory activities, exhibitions, and recognition events. These initiatives, through which the University wishes to reaffirm its firm commitment to real and effective equality between men and women, include a gathering that took place on 6 March in the Ceremonial Hall cloister (Bilbao campus) and at the entrance of the Larramendi Building (San Sebastian campus).

For the University, commemorating this date remains essential to advancing towards a fairer and more equal society, a journey in which the institution plays a key role. Within this framework, the recent establishment of the Academic Equality Committee, with representation from all Faculties, is particularly noteworthy. Its first initiative is focused on integrating a gender perspective into teaching and will involve almost 90 academic staff undertaking specialised training in equality.

ExPosicionarte

Scheduled activities include the participatory event ¿No es para tanto o sí lo es? in Bilbao, as well as several exhibitions in San Sebastian: "Women Anthropologists"; "ExPosicionarte", an exhibition on the harsh reality of prostitution; and "Parallel Universes. Conflicting feelings", by the artist Eider Baile. The Equality Unit also organised open days on both campuses, and on the occasion of 8M, the special Orkestra bulletin "Competitiveness and Gender" was published.

One of the main events was the presentation of the Benita Asas Manterola Awards, which recognise research with a gender perspective in Final Degree Projects, Master's Dissertations and doctoral theses. The ceremony was held on Wednesday, 18 March at 11:30 in the Forum Hall of the Larramendi Building (San Sebastian campus).
