The University of Deusto community joyfully joined in celebrating the jubilee of Fr José M. Lera SJ, who has completed 75 years in the Society of Jesus. Much of this long journey has been spent at the University, particularly in the Faculty of Theology, where he served as a professor and mentor to generations of students.
After his academic retirement, Fr Lera continued his teaching ministry in the Diocese of Trujillo, Peru, where he devotedly and humbly supported the life of the Church for several years. Now back at Deusto, he devotes himself fully to study and book publishing, continuing his intellectual work with the same enduring passion.
This anniversary is an opportunity to give thanks for his life and constant service, as well as to renew the commitment to continue building a university dedicated to faith, justice, and the all-round development of individuals.
The celebration took place within the Jesuit community at the University, with Fr Lera joined by some family members and former students who are now friends.
