The University of Deusto, in collaboration with Europe Combine, worked jointly on a pioneering international sports activity last week at the sports facilities of the Bilbao campus. A total of 72 university basketball players from 19 countries were in Bilbao playing daily matches in front of representatives, technical directors, and sports coordinators from European clubs, who were looking to incorporate new talented profiles into their professional teams. To facilitate the optimization of the program, all participants stayed at the Deusto Hall of Residence.
The organization, with more than 30 people, is composed of top-level coaches from national and international spheres, strength and conditioning coaches, physiotherapists, an audiovisual production team, marketing and communication, operations, etc. With the aim of giving it the widest possible dissemination, the matches were broadcast with live commentary on Europe Combine's YouTube channel.
The training camp, which functioned as a selection process, concluded on Saturday morning, July 11th, with a final match in which the 12 best players will be chosen. Following their time at Deusto, this selected group begins a tour of North American universities with the objective of securing contracts with professional teams.
With this initiative, the University of Deusto has become a key meeting point for the future of basketball, connecting young international talent with recruitment circuits in Europe and North America.
