Fernando Cortés is a member of the Applied Mechanics research group at the University of Deusto, a group recognised by the Basque Government. His research career began nearly 30 years ago in the field of Applied Mechanics, and he earned his PhD in 2006. Throughout his career, he has co-authored more than 50 articles published in high-impact journals indexed in the JCR, which has led to the attainment of 4 research six-year terms (sexenios). He has also participated in numerous national and international conferences and is the co-author of 1 book and 5 book chapters. His most significant contributions focus on Computational Mechanics and on the study of the Mechanical Behaviour of Materials and Structures. He has taken part in more than 25 competitively funded research projects, acting as Principal Investigator (PI) in 3 of them, and has also participated in more than 15 industry-contracted projects, serving as PI in approximately half of these. Most of these projects have been carried out in collaboration with industry partners, an aspect that has strongly shaped his research profile. In addition, his work has resulted in 3 patents and 1 knowledge-transfer six-year term. He also holds the Full Professor accreditation awarded by ANECA, a recognition that endorses his research trajectory.
