nicole.cusimano@deusto.esApplied mathematician with a strong research background in the development and application of mathematical and computational methods for complex biological systems. She is passionate about communicating science to a wide range of audiences and solving real-world problems by combining theoretical results with experimental data. Her work is typically interdisciplinary and involves various aspects of mathematics, computational biology and biophysics, with applications to date in drug discovery and repurposing in the field of longevity, in cardiac electrophysiology, in the transmission of infectious diseases, and in the study of resistance to therapy of breast cancer. After graduating in Mathematics from the University of Trieste (Italy), she obtained her PhD in Applied Mathematics from the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane (Australia) in 2015. Afterwards, she worked as a postdoc at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematical and Statistical Frontiers in Brisbane (Australia) and at the Basque Centre for Applied Mathematics in Bilbao (Spain). Before joining the University of Deusto, she held the position of project manager and data scientist at a digital biotechnology start-up company in Bilbao.
