Last week, students on the Degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences took part in a special session of the subject “Inclusive Physical Activity and Adapted Sport”, focused on understanding and practising different disciplines of adapted cycling, adapted athletics and adapted mountain activities.

The session was made possible thanks to equipment provided by the Gipuzkoa Adapted Sport Federation: a handbike and a tandem bicycle for cycling, a racing wheelchair for athletics, and a joëlette for mountain activities. This collaboration enabled students to become familiar with and use specific resources and adaptations employed in these sporting disciplines, through a practical experience applied to a professional context.

The session aimed to familiarise students with the reality of adapted sport through direct experience of the physical, technical and coordination demands specific to these disciplines. This experience contributes to a better understanding of the abilities, needs and key factors involved in the training processes of athletes with functional diversity.

These initiatives form part of students’ practical training and help prepare future professionals in the field of physical activity and sport, equipping them with the skills needed to develop inclusive and accessible sports programmes for all.

The collaboration with the Guipúzcoa Adapted Sports Federation has contributed to enhancing students’ learning experience and to promoting initiatives aimed at fostering a more inclusive and accessible sport.
