Casa de América in Madrid
On 21 May, Casa de América hosted the event entitled “Un orden en disputa. La vigencia del derecho internacional y los DDHH hoy: Una mirada hacia América Latina’. This dialogue aimed to encourage reflection on the implications for Latin America of the current international context, marked by shifts in global governance dynamics and in the role of the United States following the start of a new mandate by President Donald Trump.
This event was held to present the “Cuaderno Deusto de Derechos Humanos No.100”, a commemorative issue coordinated by Felipe Gómez Isa, entitled ‘Logros y desafíos’. The publication includes contributions from experts across different fields (NGOs, academia and international organisations…) reflecting on progress made in the defence and protection of human rights since the end of the Second World War.
The event was opened by Moisés Morera, Director of Programming at Casa de América, and Gorka Urrutia, Director of the Deusto Institute of Human Rights. Encarnación La Spina, Professor of Philosophy of Law and Director of the Cuadernos Deusto de Derechos Humanos series, gave the presentation. Next, Felipe Gómez Isa, Professor of International Law at the University of Deusto, spoke on “El (des)orden internacional auspiciado por la Administración Trump”.
This was followed by Felipe González Morales, Professor of International Law at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and former United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants, who delivered the lecture “El reto de la movilidad humana en América Latina”. Cristina de la Cruz, Professor of Philosophy and researcher at the University’s Institute of Human Rights, focused on the topic: “Hacia una refundación de los derechos humanos desde la experiencia de América Latina”.
