For the second consecutive year, the University of Deusto has received the UNIC HEI Award, a prize recognising the innovative and inclusive teaching practices within the alliance that best promote diversity, equity, and student engagement.
Among the two award-winning projects in this edition, the Summer School on Migration and International Protection in the Global Context (Course video), a programme coordinated jointly by the University of Deusto, the University of Zagreb and the University of Lodz, stands out. The jury particularly valued the course’s strong collaborative nature and its ability to integrate inclusive teaching with comparative legal and political analysis.
They also highlighted the programme’s close cooperation with civil society organisations, international bodies, and NGOs. This approach has allowed learning to extend beyond the classroom through practical activities and direct engagement with migration realities.
The professors from the Law School, Gustavo de la Orden and David Fernández-Rojo, who have led this course on behalf of Deusto, will each receive a UNIC Digital Badge in recognition of their work in promoting inclusive higher education through this programme.
In addition to this programme, the UNIC HEI Award has also recognised the course "Diversity, Inclusion and the Future of Work" of the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
Deusto, a benchmark in the Alliance
For the University of Deusto, this award is a significant milestone, as it is the second consecutive year that the institution has received the UNIC HEI Award. In the 2024 edition, professors Felipe Gómez Isa and Emilio Armaza were already awarded for their course on genocide and mass atrocities in international law. This new recognition reaffirms Deusto's commitment to teaching innovation and the promotion of diversity and inclusion at the European level.
