On Friday 1 March, Deusto Business School held the graduation ceremony for the 2023 graduating class of former Master's students. More than a hundred graduates of the Master's degrees in Business Management, European and International Business Management, Human Resources, Auditing, International Management and Finance gathered in the auditorium of the University to receive their diplomas.
The event began with the performance of Agur Jaunak by the Ars Canticum Ensemble choir and was conducted by the Faculty Secretary, Macarena Cuenca.
Chris Lowney, world-renowned author in the field of humanistic leadership and author of the book “Liderazgo al estilo de los jesuitas”, acted as patron of the graduating class and took the opportunity to congratulate them on their graduation and to share some of his own lessons learned while walking the Camino de Santiago.
Firstly, he encouraged them to put heart into any task they undertake and to strive and use their full potential. He also urged them to remember every day what is really important in life; to escape from frenetic activity and to stay true to their deepest beliefs.
Another piece of advice Lowney offered to the new graduates was to work on developing one's spirituality and humility. "Live for a purpose bigger than yourself or your own ego," he added. Finally, he called on them to face the future with confidence: "Whatever you do, God will find you; even if your life pattern is not always clear along the journey".
Afterwards, graduates David Esteban, Amaia Urrutikoetexea and Sofía Jiménez Marín read the solemn declaration in Spanish, Basque and English on behalf of their classmates. Afterwards, the academic directors of each master's degree presented the diplomas to each new graduate.
The general manager of Deusto Business Alumni, Naiara Tobalina, welcomed the new graduating class of alumni to the association, as a link with the university and their fellow master's students.
The ceremony ended with the words of the Dean, Álvaro de la Rica, who encouraged them to think and have the ability to ask the key questions that are needed in a world where the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly widespread. He also asked them to bear in mind the values of Deusto Business School as a guide in their future professional activities.
After listening to the university hymn Gaudeamus Igitur, the ceremony was brought to a close so that all those present could enjoy a drink and some light refreshments in the cloister.
