Derio
Once again this year, Deusto engineering students are running introductory workshops on artificial intelligence for older people. Specifically, four three-hour sessions have been organised in Derio by the Txorierri Association of Municipalities, with sponsorship from the Department of Social Action of the Provincial Council of Biscay. Biscay Older People’s Council, together with the University, is also involved in this training initiative for rural municipalities. The programme is jointly funded by each municipality and the Provincial Council of Biscay, with each contributing half of the cost.
The aim of this course, which has so far been delivered very successfully in Barakaldo, is to familiarise participants with AI tools. In fact, the training programme has been included in the Basque Innovation Agency, Innobasque’s, database of best practices because “it is not only an innovative initiative in the way it approaches active ageing, but also a pioneering one in the way it structures the training by fostering intergenerational relationships”.
The course provides participants with a basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence and teaches them how to use tools for generating text, images, speech, music and videos. The sessions also help to develop critical thinking about the impact of AI and foster personal creativity.
