Mbuyi Kabunda, one of the great Africanists who have worked tirelessly in our country, has passed away. Mbuyi was born in Lubumbashi (Democratic Republic of Congo) in 1955 and graduated in Political Science at the University of Congo. After doing his doctorate in Spain, he began working at the University Autonomous of Madrid, where he helped create its famous African Studies Group. In addition to his fruitful academic career, Professor Kabunda played a very prominent role in the field of development cooperation NGOs, where he became President of the NGO SODEPAZ (Solidaridad para el Desarrollo y la Paz). For two years (1998-2000), he was a guest researcher at the Pedro Arrupe Human Rights Institute of the University of Deusto, where he published a work that has become a true reference on the subject: Human Rights in Africa (University of Deusto, 2000). Since then, Mbuyi has participated in a number of activities organised by Deusto and has also played an active role as a lecturer in the European Master in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA) both at the University of Deusto and in Venice.

May he rest in peace!
