The INSPIRA STEAM project was won the prize for the best educational initiative in the first edition of the Telefonica Foundation Volunteering Awards. The Telefonica Foundation launched this new initiative to recognise the value of volunteering to society at the occasion of its 20th anniversary. INSPIRA STEAM is a project of the University of Deusto to promote the scientific-technological vocations among primary school girls. It represents a pioneering initiative in the Basque Country as it is based on awareness raising and guidance actions, led by women professionals from the research, science and technology fields. It uses for the first time group mentoring techniques in a project to promote STEAM competencies (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) among primary school girls. Led by the University of Deusto, INSPIRA STEAM counts with the collaboration of Innobasque and the financial support of the provincial councils: Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa y Álava in addition to BBK and Roche. Thanks to this prize, INSPIRA STEAM will receive 5.000 € to further develop the project. The awards were presented on 4 December at the Telefonica Foundation spaces in Madrid. INSPIRA STEAM was among the 339 proposals for the different Awards categories: communication, education, social entity, corporate volunteering and inspiring volunteering, all with the common objective of contributing to social progress and welfare putting the accent on the added value of volunteering to society.
