“Social networks and rights” is the title of the article published in the print version on 23 June and the online version on 22 June of El País newspaper, and which became the second mostly widely read news item.

The newspaper also highlighted that readers posted the article nearly 200 times.

In her article, the UD Law Faculty lecturer defended the position that “it is not the time to restrict the exercise of fundamental rights or set up new and stricter laws on the use of the Internet".

Her text showed a reality built on the information society where "few citizens have resisted the temptation to join virtual communities; it is not in vain that people say that you are who you are thanks to your contacts and the people that follow you on the network".

The author acknowledges that "nobody doubts that the Internet has revolutionised our professional world as well as our daily and personal lives".

However, she reveals a risk built on the idea that "never before has man given up so much of his private life" and “never before have social and professional relationships been so visible and interactive”.

Prof. Herrán warns that "we are frequently bombarded with information about abusive or illegal use of social networks where citizens, in their excessive eagerness to be seen on the network, ignoring the most basic human rights, threaten, insult or slander third parties sheltered by the supposed impunity and anonymity provided by the digital media”.

She went on to say, “this sparks legal debate once again about the pressing need to "regulate" the Internet and social networks, a subject of ongoing confrontation among experts”.
