Deusto through its teaching and research activities, a good example of this is the Interdisciplinary Research Platform on Ageing and Wellbeing, is an outstanding partner of the innovative active ageing ecosystem of the Basque Country that has been awarded as a Reference Site by the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA) for delivering creative and workable solutions to improve the lives and health of older people.
The Basque Country ecosystem brings together a “Quadruple Hellix” alliance model of players including the Basque Government (Health and Employment and Social Policy Departments); the Provincial Council of Bizkaia; Osakidetza, the Basque National Health Service; the University of Deusto and the University of the Basque Country; Fundación Matia; TECNALIA; IK4; Corporación Mondragón; and Kronikgune, among others. Together, they implement a comprehensive, innovation-based approaches for the development, implementation, transfer and scaling-up of innovative practices for active and healthy ageing across Europe.
The AHA Award Ceremony will take place on October 10th in Bruxellles where the person-centred care model implemented by Osakidetza will be presented as a best practice.

About AHA Reference Sites
Reference Sites are a recognition granted by the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA), initiative of the European Commission aiming to improve health and quality of life with a focus on older people, increase sustainability of healthcare systems, as well as boosting European competitiveness.
Reference Sites should provide solid evidence of their impact on the areas where they have been implemented or generated good practices, using robust indicators for assessment. Likewise, they must demonstrate the innovative components of their care model or healthcare system that could serve as an example of good practices for other European regions.
