The University of Deusto, through its Diversity Unit, has joined the campaign "Decibellians: the generation marked by noise", promoted by the Spanish Confederation of Families of Deaf People (FIAPAS), with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of caring for hearing health and preventing hearing loss in young people.
Constant noise, present in music, video games, concerts, or urban environments, can cause cumulative and irreversible damage to hearing. According to FIAPAS data, 50% of young people between 12 and 35 years of age are at risk of hearing loss due to prolonged exposure to high sound levels. In this way, the campaign seeks to raise awareness of this reality and encourage responsible habits that contribute to protecting hearing from an early age.
Deusto has been collaborating with FIAPAS for more than ten years, supporting awareness campaigns that make visible and defend the rights of deaf people, and reaffirming its commitment to inclusion, equal opportunities and the promotion of accessible educational environments. Participation in Decibellians reinforces this commitment by raising awareness among the university community about the risks of noise and the importance of preserving hearing throughout life.
The campaign reminds that noise-induced hearing loss is cumulative, invisible and irreversible, and encourages young people to adopt responsible habits, such as adjusting the volume of headphones, resting their ears after exposure to intense noise and maintaining an active awareness of the risks of everyday noise.

Diversity Unit
As an educational institution, the University of Deusto must ensure full integration, equal opportunities, and gradually implement the necessary measures to make our university an inclusive educational institution.
To this end, the Diversity Unit was created, working to facilitate the full inclusion of students who, for physical, organic, mental, intellectual, sensory, gender identity, sexual-affective, or gender expression reasons, may experience difficulties in accessing or remaining at the university.
One of the objectives of the Diversity Unit is to promote an inclusive and diverse social image of the University of Deusto, and to establish partnerships and networks that help increase its visibility.
For this reason, it works and collaborates with other CRUE universities and external entities, such as FIAPAS, the Spanish Confederation of Families of Deaf People in Spain, among others.
