The University of Deusto has actively participated in Ikergazte 2025, an interdisciplinary congress organised by the Udako Euskal Unibertsitatea (UEU), which was held from 28 to 30 May in Bilbao. This biennial forum, under the motto “Nazioarteko ikerketa euskaraz” (“International research in Basque”), aims to bring together young Basque researchers, highlight that high-level research can be conducted in Basque, and disseminate the results of this work across all disciplines.

In this edition, Deusto researchers presented six papers across different areas of knowledge. Among them, Orkestra's pre-doctoral researcher Naia Begiristain received an award for the work with the greatest potential impact on the development of the Basque Country. The winning thesis focuses on the analysis of the crisis of liberal democracies and the design of a conceptual framework for democratising public policy co-creation processes. Her research is based on the theories of dialogic communication, action-research for territorial development and the critical analysis of local policies, illustrated by the study of the "New Political Culture" deliberation group of the Think Tank Etorkizuna Eraikiz, promoted by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.

In addition to the contributions of the University's researchers and the presence of the vice-rector for Research and International Relations at the opening of the forum, the Deusto Social Values team collaborated in the organisation of the event and several professors were members of the scientific committee of Ikergazte 2025: Elixabete Pérez Gaztelu, Josu Bijuesca, Miren Berasategi, Xabier Landabidea and Ibon Oleagordia. Overall, more than 250 researchers and doctoral students from various fields attended the conference, taking part in plenary lectures, round tables and workshops that reaffirmed the importance of using Basque as a language of scientific work.

With this participation, the University of Deusto reinforces its commitment to the promotion of Basque in research and the promotion of networks between young Basque researchers.
