05 April 2019BilbaoOn 3-5 April 2019, research managers and policy representatives from 8 different countries participated in the international course on how to plan and implement a National Impact Research Strategy. The event was opened by Adolfo Morais, Deputy Minister for Universities and Research of the Basque Government and the Vicerrector for Research and Transfer of the University of Deusto, Rosa Santibañez. The course addressed topics such as the qualitative and quantitative assessment of research impact, the connection between societal impact and national research strategies, the changes in science publishing, the benefits of open science and the co-produced pathway to impact. Participants also discussed how to apply different theories to their own cases and worked with hands-on examples. The training was coordinated by David Phipps (York University), Paul Wouters (University of Leiden) and David Sweeney (Research England). Toñi Caro, Director of the International Research Project Office of the University of Deusto, was one of the trainers together with Claire Donovan (Brunel University), Marta Natalia Wroblewska (NCBR), Harriet Bell (Emerald Publishing) and Paula Adam (AQuAS).
