International Research - IRPO

The International Research Project Office (IRPO) supports the internationalization of DEUSTO research groups and scholars, fostering their participation in international research projects. Our aim is to help researchers realise the potential of their research, support the development of lasting international collaborative partnerships, and facilitate access to funding opportunities worldwide.

Our team

The international Research Project Office is lead by Toñi Caro, with a long track in international project management, and a team of experienced and professional research advisors with a sound track in research management.

Toñi Caro González

Toñi Caro
Head of the International Research Project Office. Toñi has 20 years of experience in the management of interdisciplinary research collaborations and community engagement with multi-stakeholder counterparts (academic, public administration, private sector and civil society), which support her as senior adviser to the Rector’s team in the strategic planning of research. She is responsible for the three master plans on Internationalisation of Research, Social Impact and Interdisciplinary Platforms included in Deusto 2018 Strategic Plan for Excellence Research and Transfer. Amongst her main responsibilities, there is the close monitoring of key EU initiatives and programmes to develop the annual participation plan for Deusto research teams and interdisciplinary platforms and, the coordination of IRPO, made of highly performing professionals. Her research interests focus on Social Innovation, Employment and inclusion, and Social Impact (FP7-SI-DRIVE, H2020-SOLIDUS).

Oscar González Fernández

Oscar Oscar holds a degree in Business Administration and Management and a Master in Audit. He is the financial manager of the international research project office. Amongst his main tasks, there is the financial supervision of international projects under Horizon 2020, FP7 and Research Europe programmes. He is also in charge of the financial management and improvement of the office management processes. He has over 3 year experience in accounting and audit in projects funded by the European Commission, having started as Project Assistant Manager at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands).


María López Belloso

María She holds a degree in Law from the University of Deusto and a PhD in Human Rights obtained at the same University. She has a solid research background, both in scientific production and in the management of research and the dynamization of teams, as well as teaching experience in the Faculty of Law of the UPV-EHU. At the International Research Projects Office, she has participated in the processes of negotiation and implementation of the last approved projects. She is responsible for the SWAFs and Secure Societies work programmes and coordinates the interdisciplinary platform on Gender. She is responsible for the areas developed by DeustoTech and the Faculties of Engineering and Law and is in charge of making interdisciplinary connections for proposals and initiatives that require innovation and technological developments applied to different areas.


Glória Nunes Rodrigues

Gloria Glória holds a degree in Political Science and International Relations, a Master in European Policy (Université Libre de Bruxelles) and a Diploma from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris. She has more than 13 years of experience in scientific and technology related activities. She has worked for 6 years at the European Commission, DG Education and Culture, in the unit "European Institute of Innovation and Technology, Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions", supporting the selection of new KICs and coordinating EIT activities with other EU initiatives. Previously, at the European Wind Energy Association, as head of the projects and policy analysis unit, she was in charge of the preparation of proposals, negotiation and implementation of FP7 projects on renewable energy. In IRPO, she is responsible for communication and dissemination activities, Social Impact and the interdisciplinary research platform Strengthening Participation.

Sara Ponce

Sara Ponce Sara holds a PhD in Pharmacy at the University of the Basque Country and Master degree in Innovation and Technology Management at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Deusto and Inasmet. Since 2000, she has worked as researcher in national (University of Basque Country, Inasmet-Tecnalia, Kronikgune) and international research centers (Groningen University, Johns Hopkins University). In IRPO she is in charge of Health work programmes and coordinates the Ageing and Wellbeing Interdisciplinary Research Platform as well as the participation of the University in the European Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing.


Barbara Rossi

Barbara Barbara has a solid background, knowledge and 17 years expertise in drafting and managing EU-funded projects in particular in the area of social sciences. She has worked in private consultancies and at the European Commission, where she was dealing with policy formulation and implementation of migration topics. She coordinates the Social Justice Interdisciplinary Platform, she is in charge of the Horizon 2020 Work Package on Reflective Societies and she deals with Social Impact issues.


Osane Uriarte

Osane Osane joined Deusto International Relations office in 2008 and has been a member of IRPO since its inception in 2011. Her main area of ​​activity is the support to Deusto research teams for attracting international talent through Horizon 2020 Excellent Science Pillar, notably the Marie Skolodowska Curie Actions and the European Research Council. She also supports the internationalisation of research in the areas of Ethics, Tourism, Leisure and Creative Cities. In this line, she coordinates the B-creative interdisciplinary research platform. She is in charge of the improvement processes at IRPO. Osane holds a Law Degree from the University of Deusto, a Master in Legal Practice from the Institute of Law and Business (IDEM) and in Euroculture from Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.



Joseba Larrea, Katia Lavín, Manuel Moreno and Irene Zulueta collaborate with the team supporting the internalisation of the Deusto's research.
