To mark its 10th anniversary, the Deusto Cities Chair will host the HiriGunea 2030 Forum on 2 and 3 June at the University Library. The Forum will serve as a space for discussion and reflection on the present and future of cities from environmental, economic, social, cultural and political perspectives.
This event is part of the implementation process of the 2030 Agenda and the New Urban Agenda of the United Nations. It is sponsored by entities such as the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Bilbao City Council, BBVA and Iberdrola. It will bring together around a hundred people from academia, as well as the institutional, business and social sectors, around five main areas of focus:
- Circular city and sustainable environmental development.
- Cohesive cities and sustainable social development.
- Cooperative cities and sustainable economic development.
- Creative city and sustainable cultural development.
Democratic governance of cities: from activation to involvement.
The various sessions of the Forum will explore the major challenges facing today’s cities: access to housing, youth-friendly cities, active and sustainable mobility, local urban economies, the smart and wise city, vulnerability and dependency, coexisting with events, climate action, smart tourism, gender and sexual identity, talent, circularity, migration, cultural and leisure services, the greening of public spaces, urban innovation labs, everyday life in our neighbourhoods, social exclusion, values-driven cities, and the design of urban spaces.….
The sessions aim to provide a comprehensive, transdisciplinary perspective that encourages reflection, dialogue, and debate in search of solutions and alternatives to the challenges and issues we face every day.
The Forum will take place over two days, with morning and afternoon sessions. It will end with a commemorative ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the Deusto Cities Chair, taking place on 2 June at 18:30 in the Atrium of the University Library. An event to acknowledge all the great work done over the years and to publicly thank everyone who has helped turn the dream of making cities better places to live into reality — engaging and involving people, both well-known and quiet contributors, in that transformation.
If you want to participate, don't hesitate and register before 28 June.
