Bilbao Campus San Sebastian Campus

Once again this year, the University of Deusto is holding its traditional Volunteering Fair which, on the Bilbao campus, took place on 26 September, from 10:00 to 14:00, in the university cloister with the participation of 60 solidarity organisations. Rector Juan José Etxeberria visited all the stands of this initiative which aims to bring students closer to different programmes and opportunities for volunteering in areas such as social inclusion, the environment and support for people in vulnerable situations, among others.

Also part of the tour was Aitziber Irigoras, Vice-Rector for University Community and Agenda 2030; Ángel Garabieta, Commercial Director of CaixaBank in the Basque Country; Sonia Sáenz, Regional Manager of ‘la Caixa’ Foundation in Castilla y León, the Basque Country and Navarre; and Ana Garibi, Head of CaixaBank Social Action in the Northern Territorial Directorate, as well as members of the board of the Jesuit-UNIJES university centres. This year, the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation is collaborating with this event, which will also be held on the San Sebastian campus. Specifically, on Monday 2 October, from 10:00 to 13:00, in the Forum Hall.

The Fair has established itself as a key space for young people to discover how to put their time and talent at the service of society, all in line with the University of Deusto's commitment to social justice and the promotion of values of solidarity, in accordance with the Ignatian tradition.

Deusto Campus Solidarity is the organising force behind this event, which has become a meeting point for students interested in actively contributing to social causes and the organisations that depend on volunteers to carry out their work.

In this sense, the Fair provides students with first-hand knowledge of volunteering opportunities, and for Deusto, ‘university volunteering is one of the most powerful ways to get involved in society and contribute to the welfare of others’. From educational actions for underprivileged children to environmental conservation projects, through community health initiatives and crisis assistance, the exhibition will bear witness to the diversity of projects and causes that can be addressed through volunteering.

Social Campus

The Volunteering Fair also served as a frame for the recognition ceremony of the projects carried out over the last two years within the Social Campus. This University of Deusto programme puts the University's existing capacities and resources (training, research, transfer and care) at the service of vulnerable groups.

Thus, the Social Campus offers institutions the possibility of collaborating jointly with research projects, both end-of-degree and end-of-master's degree projects or other specific studies, experiences and products of Learning and Services, student solidarity internships and volunteer work. At the event, work carried out within this cooperation was shown.
