Results of the Horizon 2020 project GEARING ROLES (Gender Equality Actions in Research Institutions to traNsform Gender ROLES), coordinated by DEUSTO have been published byCORDIS (the European Commission's primary service for EU-funded research results).

The article has been included in the ‘Results Pack on gender equality research’, based on a request from the ERC executive Agency (ERCEA) and the European Commission’s Directorate General Research and Innovation (RTD). A Results Pack is a thematic collection of project results tailored to the needs of specialized audiences who can further exploit them. The service is provided free of charge to you by the European Commission, as part of its strategy on the effective dissemination and exploitation of research results.

Published to mark International Women’s Day 2022, this Results Pack seeks to raise awareness of the importance of a gender perspective in research and innovation.

The article analyses the fact that, despite significant progress over the last decades, and that promoting gender equality and women’s better representation in our European society is a longstanding commitment of the European Commission, yet structural and individual barriers remain that significantly impact on the health, wealth and happiness of both women and men in Europe.

A “results in brief” article has been also published, where María Silvestre (leader of the GEARING ROLES Project and member of the Gender Interdisciplinary Research Platform) speaks about the under-representation of women at the highest level in academia and in decision-making positions, as well as about the resistances behind which might be explicit or hidden, and might come from individuals, groups, or might be at institutional level, taking the form of denial, disavowal of responsibility, inaction and repression.
