Comillas Pontifical University
As part of the opening ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year at Comillas Pontifical University, the institution awarded its Plaque of Honour to the University of Deusto to mark its 140th anniversary.
The distinction was accepted by Deusto’s Rector, Juan José Etxeberria, who described it as invaluable because “more than a recognition, it represents the sincere embrace of two sister institutions that share the same Ignatian heritage, an intertwined history and a firm commitment to educating professionals who are conscious, competent, compassionate and committed to social transformation”.
A “sincere” expression of gratitude that the Rector received not as a point of arrival, but as an impetus to continue moving forward together, forging partnerships and putting knowledge, faith and heart at the service of a more just world. Full speech
