On Saturday, 28 February, the graduation ceremony for students of Bachelor’s and Deusto degrees took place at the Bilbao campus. On this occasion, the graduates of BMA programmes with Deusto-specific degrees celebrated their graduation in a ceremony marked by emotion and recognition of the effort made over the last few years.
The Faculty Secretary, Leire Goitia, led the ceremony and welcomed attendees.
The event began with a lectio brevis delivered by Professor Guillermo Dorronsoro, entitled El arte de dar oportunidades al destino (The art of giving fate a chance). In his address, he highlighted the beauty of a graduation ceremony and the emotion that accompanies such a significant moment, encouraging the new graduates to always maintain an open attitude towards the opportunities life presents.
Next, two graduates spoke on behalf of their graduating class. Iván Castillejo Martín shared a reflection on his and his classmates' time at the university, highlighting the personal and academic learning experienced during these years. In turn, Víctor García Cuasante stated that “it is more than a degree” and expressed his gratitude to the faculty and families, noting that “without them it would not have been possible.”
The ceremony continued with the graduation of two new students, followed by the conferral of stoles to all graduates, one of the most anticipated moments for those present.
This was followed by the presentation of the Rafael Luis Álvarez Awards by the president of the Luis Bernaola Foundation, Víctor Múgica. In this edition, the awards were presented to Garazi Azumendi Altonaga, Beatriz Estancona Bárcena, and Leire Rejas Izaguirre, in recognition of the quality of their work and their academic dedication.
The president of Deusto Business Alumni, Antón Azlor, then spoke, reminding the recent graduates of the responsibility that comes with their education. “Graduating in Business Administration is not just about mastering balance sheets, strategies, or financial models; it is about taking on positions from which, in many cases, you will influence the lives of others,” he said.
Finally, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences at Deusto Business School, Macarena Cuenca, spoke, highlighting the values that define the university and encouraging the new graduates to carry them into their professional and personal futures.
The ceremony concluded with everyone standing to listen to the traditional university anthem, Gaudeamus Igitur, which once again filled the Ceremonial Hall with solemnity.
