A central pillar of Deusto's university activities

Ensure inclusive, equitable and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Education, which aims to be holistic and experiential, is based on four pillars of Jesuit education, which are contained in the so-called Ledesma-Kolvenbach paradigm.

Pillars of Jesuit education

Ledesma-Kolvenbach Paradigm

Providing life skills education to address the problems and needs of individual people. The aim is to prepare students to become professionals who are aware of the wealth of benefits that the exercise of a profession can produce: economic wealth, ecologically sustainable satisfaction of human needs, but also a true sense of existence and the construction of a human community that is more respectful of human dignity.

Seeking the good of the men and women in our society, especially the most vulnerable, by defending their rights and building a fairer society.

Contributing to students' all-round development so that they can develop all their potential as fully competent, conscientious, compassionate and committed individuals.

Faith, not shared by all, but which can be cultivated by those who want to do so, being called to collaborate with others in the development of a just and inclusive society.

Educational Innovation Unit

Educational Innovation Unit

Education is in constant transformation, the UD has a Educational innovation unit to:

  • Support and advise the university community in teaching matters.
  • Implement competence-based learning.
  • Promote the use of technology in teaching.
  • Innovate in the field of education.

The UD has the eDucaR team, which conducts research on teaching and learning processes (learning environments, interactive environments, contexts, methodologies, assessment, among others), educational management models and educational phenomena from a historical and theoretical perspective that can successfully meet students’ educational needs and the challenges of Basque and European society.

Research activity focuses on an ongoing search for educational interventions to achieve the best learning outcomes on a practical, efficient and equitable basis.

Deusto Grants and Financial Aid Service

Equal opportunities

The UD promotes equal opportunities for students to enter the university and pursue their studies, making it easier for students to opt for financial aid for admission or continuation of studies. To this end, the Deusto Grants and Financial Aid Service provides personal attention and allocates or deals with a number of financial aid options to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate or doctoral studies.
