After receiving the BeBai 2025 Award for Best Practices in Social Services, the Egokitzen programme is starting up in Biscay with the aim of protecting children in high-conflict family situations.
This intervention model has more than two decades of experience and has been developed by the Deusto FamilyPsych team of the Faculty of Health Sciences. It is already operating at family meeting points in other parts of the Basque Country, such as Vitoria, where it was awarded the aforementioned BeBai prize.
It focuses on especially contentious divorces and addresses comprehensively the emotional needs of parents, children, grandparents, and new partners, aiming to promote positive co-parenting and protect the well-being of minors. "Many parents are not aware of the damage they are causing until they are shown the real impact the conflict has on their children," explained Ana Martinez Pampliega, Professor of Psychology at the University of Deusto.
