The current reform process of the Statutes of Autonomy was discussed during a Seminar held by the Institute of Basque Studies

Last 5 and 6 November, the Institute of Basque Studies held the first two sessions of a Seminar on the current reform process of the Statutes of Autonomy, which was organised within the framework of a collaboration agreement between the Basque Parliament and the University of Deusto. During this seminar, the different proposals for reform were examined, followed by a reflection on the reform of the Basque Statute.This course, which is open to 40 people, is targeted at students, lecturers, researchers and civil servants, and at anyone interested in exploring the reforms of the autonomous model in greater depth.

Bilbao Campus

This Seminar is made up of six afternoon sessions that will be held throughout the 2007-2008 academic year, either at the Basque Parliament or at the University of Deusto. Each session will last approximately two hours and a half. They will include a general introduction and a series of lectures from renowned speakers in the field under discussion. This will be followed by an open discussion between participants in the sessions.

The first session was held on 5 November at the Basque Parliament and it was focused on the topic 'La Reforma del Estatuto de Andalucia' . This seminar was given by Javier Pérez Royo, professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Seville.The following session was held on 6 November, and it was attended by the Chairwoman of the Basque Parliament, Izaskun Bilbao. During this session, the main topic was ?The Reform of the Statute of Autonomy in Catalonia?. Participants included Carles Viver Pi-Sunyer, professor of Constitutional Law at the Universitat Pompeu Frabra, Director of the Institut d?Estudis Autonomics of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and Former Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court.
