Telefónica Móviles, Manufacturas Eléctricas S.A., PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Thales Information Systems presented the Awards to the Best Final Year Engineering Projects

The awards presentation was held last 10 March, on the occasion of the graduation ceremony for the new Engineering graduates including: Computing, Industrial Organisation, Automation and Industrial Electronics, and Telecommunications. The Faculty of Engineering-ESIDE at the University of Deusto presented the four awards to the Best Final Year Project, one for each Engineering degree. These prizes were sponsored by Telefónica Móviles, Manufacturas Eléctricas S.A., PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Thales Information Systems. Each of these prizes, consisting of a cash award of 600 euros and a silver commemorative plaque, is awarded in recognition of the best project carried out in each engineering degree in their year group. The Projects were awarded distinction grades, which were based on the following criteria: Innovation, technology integration, social relevance, and applicability.

In this way, recognition is given to the effort made by these new engineers and to the value and contribution to the different engineering fields. In this regard, a prize is awarded for each Engineering degree, which are sponsored by a representative company in the corresponding area. For these collaborating companies, the awarding of these prizes is an opportunity to be in close contact with the new engineers and to get to know their aptitudes and interests for possible future projects.

This year, awarded students and projects were: in Telecommunications Engineering, Koldobika Boulandier Calonge and Xabier Etxebarria Espinosa, with their project entitled, 'Implementación de un sistema de identificación automática y seguimiento de personas en entornos cerrados mediante RFID' supervised by Diego López de Ipiña. Telefónica Móviles was the awarding company of this prize, which was presented by Gonzalo Azaola, Northern Area Manager of Telefónica Móviles España.

In the case of the Computing Engineering degree, the company sponsoring this prize was Thales Information Systems. The awarded students were: Mikel Fernández de Matauco Amestoy and Irantzu Marquínez Nieto, with their project entitled, 'Programación de servicios distribuidos para impresoras multifuncionales con Java', supervised by Diego López de Ipiña. The prize was presented by Iñigo Rodríguez Lizundia, Northern Area Manager of Thales Information Systems.

Iratxe Zuluaga Líbano developed the project entitled 'Diseño e implantación de un parque eólico', supervised by José María Merino Azkárraga. PriceWaterhouseCoopers was the company sponsoring this prize in the area of Engineering in Industrial Organisation, which was presented by Teodoro Viguri. Finally; Pablo Ausín Sánchez won the prize awarded by Manufacturas Eléctricas S.A. in Engineering in Automation and Industrial Electronics. His project entitled, 'Diseño, integración y pruebas de una plataforma de control avanzado basada en una solución tecnológica en tiempo real' was supervised by Julio Revilla Ocejo. Eduardo Urturi, Marketing Corporation Manager presented this prize.

Graduation Ceremony for New Graduates in Engineering

Last academic year, a total of 423 students completed their Engineering degree course, 236 of whom were students of Computing Engineering, 87 of Engineering in Industrial Organisation, 67 of Telecommunications Engineering, and 33 of Engineering in Automation and Industrial Electronics.
