The University of Deusto creates the Gertrude Ryan Chair, with the aim of bringing the American and European legal systems closer together

Last 25 September, the University of Deusto signed an agreement for the creation of the Gertrude Ryan Chair-University of Deusto, whose main aim is to bring the American and European legal systems closer together. This agreement was signed by Jaime Oraá, Rector of the University of Deusto, and Pilar Díaz varela, Chairwoman of the Gertrude Ryan Foundation, which is devoted to the comparative research and study of Anglo-American law. This agreement envisages the development, among other activities, of on-site courses delivered via video conferencing from New York, educational stays in USA for lecturers, joint publications and the analysis of the possibility of creating joint degrees.

The increasing relations between USA and Europe, and the outstanding differences between both legal systems provide the study and understanding of the North-American legal system with an added value for the training of lawyers in the 21st Century.With the creation of this chair, the University of Deusto, in general, and the Faculty of Law, in particular, provide a response to their commitment to academic excellence and to the ongoing innovation in Law studies.
