Mayra Núñez Pastor, PhD candidate at the Human Rights Institute, receives the prestigious René Cassin Doctoral Thesis Award 2025

The Human Rights Institute is pleased to that PhD candidate Mayra Núñez Pastor has been awarded the René Cassin Doctoral Thesis Award 2025, one of the most prestigious international awards in the field of human rights. Her doctoral thesis, entitled "Voices across the Inter-American Human Rights System on Reparations of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Transitions: Interpreting Needs and Demanding Rights", was defended in May 2024 at the University of Deusto, and was jointly supervised by Professor Felipe Gómez Isa, principal investigator of the Institute’s research team, and Professor Clara Burbano from Ghent University.

The award jury, appointed by the René Cassin Foundation – International Institute of Human Rights, praised the academic excellence and significance of Dr Núñez Pastor’s research, which was unanimously praised by all members.

As part of the recognition, the René Cassin Foundation will publish the thesis in the prestigious Publications series of the Institut international des droits de l’homme, through the Les Éditions Pedone publishing house. This publication will be fully funded by the Foundation.
