ESTE faculty-University of Deusto and Jangela Solidaria are collaborating in a project aimed at raising funds to finance the annual food expense of 500 orphan children in Wukro (Kenya)

150 fourth-year students at ESTE faculty are taking part in an innovative initiative through the development of a plan to recruit new members for Jangela Solidaria. The challenge is to manage to recruit regular individual members, who will commit themselves to providing continued membership and economic support to this project. Students were divided into teams of six people, who had to carry out a plan to develop and set a 'sales plan' into motion. This work will be supervised by ESTE lecturers and by the heads of the association so that the outcome of this exercise is as useful as possible, and they can transmit the values contained within the proposal of becoming members of Jangela Solidaria in the best possible way

Last 24 October, it was a special day for many of ESTE's fourth-year students.Ángel Olaran, a missionary of the White Fathers order, with over 20 years' experience in humanitarian activities in Africa, explained the nature of the association and the project they have been carrying out over the last few years.More specifically, he examined the activities that have been developed in such different areas as education, health, hygiene, or the reafforestation of some areas in Africa. It was a morning full of surprises, since many of the students had not heard about the association or its aims before. The opening presentation ended with a final challenge:students would be able to put into practice their knowledge in sales techniques to help the organisation to recruit regular individual members, who commit themselves to providing continued membership and economic support to the project.

This is a unique opportunity to bring the 'business' reality of an organisation in Guipuzcoa closer to students at the same time as it raises awareness of the privileges we have for being born in a developed society. This practical experience provides students the opportunity to put the competences and skills acquired in class to the test in the street.

This initiative is one step forward to other initiatives that are being carried out at the University of Deusto at its San Sebastian campus.Five years ago, the road assistance organisation (DYA) presented its case at ESTE faculty, and students took part in the development of a communication plan for this organisation. In addition, the Blood Donors' Association has presented its case every year at ESTE faculty for the last four years, and students have to design and carry out a communication campaign every year, aimed at all the people on campus in order to recruit new blood donors.Last year, the Atzegi foundation was the one to collaborate with the University in a project that brought about a considerable increase in members of the Atzegi association (atzegizales). Hence, this led to increase society's awareness of the needs that the group of persons with intellectual disability have.
