Jesuit Law Faculties and Schools worldwide meet at Deusto to speak about consumer rights

Last 20 June, the University of Deusto held a press release to present the International Congress on Consumer Law ICADE, ESADE, Deusto. This Congress will be held from 26 to 28 June at this academic centre, within the Annual Meeting of the World Association of Jesuit Law Faculties and Schools. More than 50 jurists from jesuit universities worldwide will be attending this event. In it, renown lecturers at Deusto, ICADE and ESADE, will examine a number of issues regarding consumer protection such as thefts during travel, defective products, transgenic food, or in the field of luxury goods and services, aesthetic surgery, gyms or body building, among others.News

This Congress has been organised into ten working sessions during which the general and historical aspects of consumer law will be examined. A number of lectures will be given: 'El consumo y sus patologías en tiempos de globalización', 'La protección jurídica en la antigüedad de algunos derechos de los ciudadanos (viajeros): derecho de paso público, derecho a exigir responsabilidad por daños, robos ocasionados en posadas' or 'La protección del asegurado y la errática interpretación judicial'.

The remaining sessions will be focused on consumers in specific fields, and an in-depth analysis will be made of issues such as:'Las certificaciones de calidad con especial atención a las marcas blancas en la protección de los consumidores', 'El consumidor y el trabajador como partes débiles del contrato', 'El consumidor en la Ley de viajes combinados', 'La responsabilidad civil de las contratas y subcontratas para con los consumidores y usuarios', 'Los contratos de telefonía móvil: repaso a las cláusulas abusivas más frecuentes' or 'La protección de datos personales de los consumidores y usuarios en los servicios de comunicaciones electrónicas'.

Consumers faced with International and community Law, and consumer protection in the procedural and criminal spheres will be some of the general issues that will be explored in greater depth during this Congress. A special issueisthat devoted to financial law and consumers, which will be dealt with in two lectures on 'Los impuestos que gravan el consumo' or 'Imposición sobre el consumo y renta básica'.

This Congress has been organised within the Annual Meeting of the World Association of Jesuit Law Faculties and Schools. This Association was created during the 13thOrdinary General Meeting of the Jesuit University Association in Latin America (AUSJAL), held in May 2003, at the do Vale do Rio dos Sinos University in Brazil (Unisinos). The aim of this Association is to train professionals in legal and social sciences to beupright and committed to the service and promotion of justice. It is also intended to give response to the need to face the challenges with regard to the Democratic andSocialState, and to the rule of Law, which include human rights, poverty, migration and social exclusion.This Association also seeks to achieve these aims with the common reflection that is characteristic of International Congresses, as the one that will be held at Deusto on Consumer Law.
