Javier Viaña at the ILAT Conference in Miami

Javier Viaña, lecturer in Private International Law at the University of Deusto, attended the Florida Bar Association ILAT Conference on 27 February. He gave a paper on international litigation, arbitration and transactions. 

Viaña spoke on “attorney-client ethics, the minimum behavioural standards for attorneys in Civil Law as opposed to Common Law, which is in effect in the US and the UK".  Viaña explained the "differences between Common and Civil Law" as per attorney-client relations and highlighted the ethical implications and their regulation in the European system.”
 
Viaña emphasised “relevant issues such as codes of conduct, reasons and types of European codes such as a review of the attorney's bases for action”.
