Session with Elena Arce (Tecnalia) on the Master’s degree in Human Resources

06 November 2017

Bilbao Campus

Elena Arce, from the Tecnalia Human Resources Department, led a session on this Master's programme (official Spanish degree) on 6 November. She took part in a class on the subject entitled “Organisational Structure” to share the case of cultural and organisational change that took place at Tecnalia due to the merger in 2011, which was the subject of her doctoral dissertation.

Prior to 2011, there were many technology centres in the Basque Country, which prompted them to join forces and seek synergies. Therefore, 8 of them merged to form a new corporation, Tecnalia. Mergers are always complicated, even between two organisations, meaning that merging 8 was a major challenge. Furthermore, the entire process was carried out in an economic crisis context, which dramatically affected funding sources. Six years have passed since then and although many change-related projects have been implemented, there is still work to be done. Indeed, this is normal, as cultural change processes take time.

Thank you, Elena and Tecnalia for sharing your experience with us!
